Name that Shape

Yellow Canaries spent the week learning about shapes through a variety of activities.  Both math and art center featured activities that allowed students to practice recognizing common shapes such as circles, squares, triangles, rectangles, ovals and diamonds.  The two week school themed dramatic play comes to an end today as we prepare for a new theme to start on Monday.  Check out the photos below of friends making good choices!

A Rainy Thursday

The morning showers may have kept the yellow canaries from running on the playground but it did not keep them from exploring new activities.  Yellow Canaries watched a short film that included a lesson on manners to continue our practice on making good choices in the classroom.   During centers, students continued to practicing recognizing their names and friends at both the writing center and sensory table.  Mr. Mealing also visited this morning for a special story and musical game to help remember friends names.

Full Speed Ahead

The Pre-K 3 team kicks into drive mode this week with our first week of full days.  Following the three day weekend, children arrived bright and early at 7:45 this morning and started their morning with music class with Mr. Mealing who introduced the yellow canaries to the hokie pokie dance.  Music will take place every morning this week for we are on a weekly specials rotation.  Mr. Mealing has dance moves for the hokie pokie and several other special activities in store.  After recess, snack,, and math circle students tested out new centers including painting at the easel, face matching at the sensory table, and letter matching at the writing center.  Dramatic play also transformed into a school classroom.  Check out the pictures below of friends testing out the dramatic play.

A Week Full of Choices and New Friends

What a busy first few days! This week we read stories, made friends, sang songs and learned how to use scissors, glue sticks and crayons.  Take a look at our pictures! Parents are encouraged to talk to your child about being a leader at school and making good choices.
Remember there is no school on Monday and next week we begin regular school hours 7:45 - 3 pm.
See everyone on Tuesday!
